President Bush defended his presidency yesterday by noting that "America has gone more than seven years without another terrorist attack on our soil."

Depending on your definition of "terrorism," this claim is about as accurate as his claims about Iraqi WMD. See here or here. And it's worth remembering that the only major foreign terrorist attack on American soil in our history occurred on Bush's watch, and anti-American terrorist groups have conducted major attacks in Jordan, Indonesia, Spain, and a number of other countries since 9/11. I think the Bush administration did some smart things after 9/11 (such as ousting al Qaeda from its safe haven in Afghanistan) and I'm glad that we haven't suffered another attack, but the fact there hasn't been any large-scale foreign terrorist attack on American soil is an insufficient criterion for judging the "war on terror," not to mention an entire presidency.

Bush said

"I feel safer already, now all they can throw is their Turkey made shoes";->>

note: But I would still be worried how come his bodyguards couldn't catch those shoes in the air like they would a base-ball - any ball;->>Meybe if he replaces his bodyguards with French/Spanish/Brazilian/German/British goal-keepers then he could be proudly declare that he is _really_ feeling safer;->

But the world was not safer for seven years

The 43rd US Presiden - Bush's 2 terms - in office were marked by too many wars on earth achieving killed in action soldiers "more than those who died in 9/11" - His rating polls were least popular - Despite all those wars and vetos at the UN security assembly!

Compare G W Bush with Ike:
34th US President IKE suspended AID TO ISRAEL
“Ike” = Dwight David Eisenhower American general & the 34th President of the United States (1953-1961). As far as WAR & PEACE issues; IKE had the richest experience of all US presidents!
In WWII he was the commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force (1943-1945) he launched the invasion of Normandy (June 6, 1944) and oversaw the final defeat of Germany (1945).
Ike cared about the STRATEGIC WELL BEING of Israel because HE was aware that the creation of Israel was the ultimate answer to European anti-Anti-Semitism.
On October 31, 1956 Ike’s presidency was marked by SUSPENSION OF US AID to ISRAEL in protest at its invasion of Egypt in the Suez Crisis.
In an emergency session of the United Nations (UN) November 1-2 1956 General Assembly was called to consider the Suez Crisis. U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE John Foster DULLES, ATTACKED the British–French–Israeli ACTION, and the Assembly votes for a cease-fire!
Britain & France complied promptly, but ISRAEL did not; until January 22, 1957 when Israeli forces completed their withdrawal.

As a result of Ike's PROMPT foreign policy; there were NO WARS in the near-east FOR A FULL DECADE 1957 TO 1967! HALELUJA
