I'm off to New Orleans to catch the last couple of days of the International Studies Association's annual meeting, so blogging will be light for the rest of the week.
I'll be speaking on two panels and looking forward to both. The first panel was organized by my FP colleague Dan Drezner, on the topic of -- surprise! -- foreign policy blogs and their impact on policy. Other participants include Charli Carpenter (who's written a very interesting paper with Dan on the subject), Robert Farley, and my Harvard colleague Joe Nye, who will act as discussant and tell us where we got it wrong. It would be nice if our panel concluded that blogs are a revolutionary force in world politics that singlehandedly ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity. But somehow I doubt that.
My second panel will be a tribute to famed IR theorist Kenneth Waltz, who is receiving a (richly deserved) lifetime achievement award from the International Security Studies sub-section of ISA. The panel consists of former colleagues and students of Ken's and we will be there to sing his praises and discuss his many contributions. Should be lots of fun, as well as an opportunity for a group of tough-minded realists to show off our sentimental side.
Does the realization that the American Empire spent the last half a century squandering its advantages and going bankrupt by constantly losing fear-based reptile brain wars to peasants, farmers, and Asian rednecks ever bother Mr. Walt?
Nah, realism is just a cover for morally bankrupt foreign intervention by whatever powerful tribe holds the throne.
Well Prof. Walt, shall we assume that in this gathering your good self has informed us about ; as Oscar Wilde had once said " while we look to the dramatist to give romance to realism, we ask of the actor to give realism to romance"?.

Ask a question to Dan Drezner about your : he told me it was bad
Last time I saw him, in Barcelona, at IBEI, were he was teaching US FP (I had you the year before as teacher), I ask him what did he think of your book, Israeli Lobby, he told me that it lacked facts support, and was not really consistant in some parts. So, when I ask him to tell where exactly, he just told me "believe me, i read the book, I know it not really good" Would you please ask him personally to answer you that same question, perhaps you´ll a more concrete answer.

To listen the experiences ,shared by Ken Waltz former colleagues, was a enriching moment. Specially, to learn that you all share the " Learn for oneself" motto , thanks to Waltz teachings.
Also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DG0lplUSD8 was an interesting angle to the blogs discussion.
